Maintenance plans
With SQL Server, you can set up backups in a maintenance plan as well. The nice thing about using a maintenance plan is that you can also get SQL Server to check the database integrity and to reorganize the indexes so performance is increased. You can use the Maintenance Plan Wizard in SQL Server 2008 or 2012 to create maintenance plans. Additionally, you can use the Maintenance plan designer in SQL Server 2008 or 2012.
SQL Server 2008 or 2012 requires you to have SQL Server Integration Services installed. Many people call this SSIS. If you neglected to install it, you have to retrieve it from your installation CD. While you need SSIS to make maintenance plans in SQL Server 2008 or 2012 works out of the box.
You get to the maintenance plans in the Management section of Management Studio. Right-click on Data Maintenance Plans and choose Maintenance Plan Wizard in 2008 or 2012, unless you are an experienced user.
