Restoring when the name is not available

When the database name is not available, you must right-click on the word Databases and choose Restore Databases. First, enter the new database name (presumably SiriusSQL). Because the database name wasn’t there to begin with, the backup history may also be missing – so it may not be available in the Show Backups of database: dropdown. If that is the case, you must choose From Device instead of the Database radio button. You must select a Device to restore from – in this case the Device is a file, but the device can also be a tape. Add the full backup file to the device list.

Important: In the Options tab, you must select Leave the database non-operational. If you do not, you can’t restore your differential as well. Also, you may change the path to where you are restoring, if the path has changed. You must change the path for all four files in the backup set.

When you click OK, the restore process completes. Now you can get the differential. Again, right-click on Databases, set the database name, select From Device – but this time, choose the differential backup file. Change the filenames if necessary. When you click OK, the differential backup is restored and you are able to reconnect to the database.
If you have moved your server to a new computer with a new IP address or new computer name, you may need to modify your ODBC connections accordingly.
