TechStation settings

The TechStation .INI settings are listed and described in the following table.

TechStation setting
Description
Instance Name
Six character (or less) name of the TechStation. This is the name that is inserted into the rental data to identify where certain actions took place.
RentEZ IP Address
IP address of the RentEZ computer used by this TechStation.
RentEZ Port
Port used – typically this is 4207.
Server Timeout
Amount of time in seconds to wait to connect to RentEZ application before a timeout message is displayed.
Scan Timeout
Specifies time (in thousandths of a second) for a scan timeout. If less than ten characters are received in this period, the scan ends. Default value is 300.
Verbosity Level
Level of logging performed for TechStation functions.
AutoPrefix
Rental barcode prefix to be “assumed” if no prefix is scanned. This may be set to RI to assume that a rental inventory barcode was scanned if no prefix is present. Or, this may be set to RF to assume that a Rental form barcode was scanned if no prefix is present. Or, this may be left blank if both the RI and RF prefixes are included in appropriate barcodes (RI for rental inventory and RF for Rental forms). Generally speaking, even when including the necessary prefixes in all barcodes, setting this to RI is helpful as it allows a rental tech to simply type in a rental inventory number as opposed to typing in RI plus the number when doing a manual entry.
Reset Timeout
Number of seconds to wait before resetting the TechStationPC back to the Ready screen. This can be helpful in preventing equipment from being inadvertently attached to the wrong Rental form if a Rental form was scanned, but the rental technician walked away from the TechStation without attaching equipment or resetting the TechStation.

In addition to TechStation settings, there are a few RentEZ settings that can impact the functionality of the TechStation application.

RentEZ setting
Description
AllowCrossovers
Value can be YES or NO. When set to YES, rental inventory that does not match the allowed equipment types configured for the rental package may be attached to the Rental form. Renting a piece of equipment that does not match the type configured for the package purchased by the guest requires password authorization.
AllowUpgrades
Value can be YES or NO. When set to YES rental inventory that does not match the allowed equipment level configured for the rental package may attached to the Rental form. Renting a piece of equipment that does not match the level configured for the package purchased by the guest requires password authorization.
CheckInOnLostOrStolen
Value can be YES or NO. If a guest reports his equipment as lost or stolen, it can be marked as lost or stolen with the TechStation. This setting determines whether to first automatically check-in the equipment on the Guest form before marking it as lost or stolen or marking it as lost or stolen and keeping it active on the current Guest form. This setting is modified based on the business practices of the rental shop (holding the guest responsible for the lost/stolen equipment – thus keeping it checked-out to them or not).
DaysPostReturnExchange
Used to determine the number of days that the Exchange button remains active on a returned piece of equipment within a Rental form. Keeping this button active is useful in the specific situation where only one item is rented to a form and the tech needs to exchange the item but instead accidentally returns it; this, in turn, closes the Rental form. Setting this to 0 removes the Exchange button on all returned equipment. Setting it to anything greater than 0 keeps the button available for the number of days specified.
DaysReactivateForm
Used to determine the number of days that the Reactivate Form button is available on a Rental form within the TechStation. Setting this to 0 removes the Reactivate Form button. Setting it to anything greater than 0 keeps the button available for the number of days specified.
DaysReRentCountAsContinuation
Used in a pay-upon-return rental shop to specify the continuation of a rental when the “re-rent” action is applied to the item within X number of days of being returned. Re-rents that occur within the number of days specified count as a continuation of a multi-day rental when using the R_DAYS_EX Dynamic Pricing function. Re-rents that occur outside of this threshold are not considered a continuation of the same rental when using the R_DAYS_EX Dynamic Pricing function. Setting this to 0 requires “same day” re-rents in order for the rental to still qualify for multi-day discounts.
DeactivateScanBox
Value can be YES or NO. When attaching a piece of equipment to a Rental form, this setting determines if the tech must re-scan the Rental form to activate the scan box again in order to attach more equipment to the same form. With this set to YES, the process requires that the Rental form be scanned in between each piece of equipment to be checked-out. With this set to NO, the scan box on the Rental form remains active until all equipment possible is checked-out to the form. Setting this to YES can help prevent pieces of equipment from getting inadvertently checked-out on the wrong Rental form if a tech forget to “reset” the tech station before scanning equipment – thus potentially scanning equipment onto the previous Guest’s form instead the current Guest’s form.
EnableOverDueAlerts
Value can be YES or NO. Used to determine whether or not notification of overdue rentals occurs at the TechStation.
FilesDirectory
Value is the path to the directory where “alert tones” and logo files are stored.
LastNForms
Determines how many forms to display with the Show Last N Forms button on the Ready page within the TechStation.
LookupBy
Specifies whether the default rental equipment search is based on the Barcode or Asset Number field.
PasswordDeleteItem
Password that must be entered in order to delete a piece of rental inventory from a Rental form.
PasswordModifyLog
Password that must be entered in order to edit the Rental form log.
PasswordReactivate
Password that must be entered in order to reactivate a Rental form.
PasswordUpgrade
Password that must be entered during a crossover or an upgrade.
