Resource Scheduling : Terminology

Terminology

The following are the key scheduling terms used in this document.

Term
Description
Reservation
A reservation associates a guest with a resource. Requires the Salesware Reservations module.
Reservation Header
The Reservation Header is used to create a reservation. This is the same functionality used with the Salesware Reservations module, except that a resource is reserved.
Event
This is an instance that appears in the calendar. Events are what are “booked” in the Resource Scheduling module. An event is a reservation of a resource at a specific location. An event is always of a certain event type.
Event types
Also called calendar schedule groups. An event type is an activity such as a tour or game. An event is a specific instance of an event type. Event types are not scheduled but events of a certain event type are. Event types are created from SysManager > Activities > Item/Sales Lists > Calendar Schedule Groups. Each event type is associated with one or more resources.
Resources
Also called calendar schedule group items. These are traditional Salesware items, configured from SysManager > Activities > DCIs > New/Edit. Resources are what are sold in Resource Scheduling module. Resources are reserved for events and these events are then scheduled. One or more resources are associated with each event type. An event, then, is a sale of an instance of an event type and its associated resources.
Calendar schedule locations
Where an event occurs. Every event must have a location. When scheduling an event, events are filtered by location. If an event can occur at more than one location, different event types must be created for each location. Locations are set from SysManager > Item/Sale Lists > Calendar Schedule Locations.
