Forced vs. optional validation

An item may be configured to force validation or it may be configured with optional validation. Forced validation requires the entry of a valid pass record (loaded with the necessary value) in order to finalize the sale. Optional validation allows a sale to be finalized even if the pass record entered is not valid. Forced vs. optional validation can be specified for both the sale and the return of an item. Generally speaking, programs that force validation involve offering discounts to pass holders and programs that allow optional validation involve reward programs that allow the pass holder to accumulate value.
